Ticket to Ride and Memoir '44 have been reviewed in the
December issue of NAG magazine, which has just been released. Here
are the Reviews courtesy of NAG Magazine.

Ticket to Ride
"Ticket to Ride is a simple and fun title that is
described as a cross-country train adventure. Points are
earned (and moves made) by collecting various cards and
winning races across America in the 1900's. Yes, that's
right, no dice in sight when you play this one! The true
beauty of this game is that it is so incredibly simple to
learn, yet offers the player a huge amount by way of
entertainment. The product is sturdy and well finished, with
more than enough play pieces to make your board journey
complete and then some. By the way, we just thought we'd
mention that Ticket to Ride won the much coveted German
Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) for the year 2004."
Memoir '44
"Strategy titles are very popular on
the PC, as we all know - but board game variants are also
popular... look at titles like Risk and even chess for
proof. However, most have very simple rules that cover the
strategic side of things with very broad strokes. Not so
with Memoir '44. This game has a rather hefty rule manual
that covers just about any possible situation that can occur
on the board, and includes several historically based World
War 2 scenarios for you to choose from. It is intense and
precise play, and the player needs to keep his wits about
him to win the game. The entire thing is wonderfully
finished, with detailed playing pieces, clear cards and a
sturdy feel. If you enjoy your board games a little more
cerebral than just moving around a track buying streets,
this is one for you to consider."

Risk: Lord of the Rings (Trilogy
Edition) and Runebound have been reviewed in the November
issue of NAG magazine, which has just been released. Here
are the Reviews courtesy of NAG Magazine.

Risk:
Lord of the Rings (Trilogy Edition)
"As stated before, board games are beginning to follow
trends set by other entertainment media. Where once upon a
time a movie was based on a board game (meaning Clue, of
course)
we now have a board game based on a movie. One could
argue that Lord of the Rings Risk Trilogy Edition is based
on the books, but the imagery and feel of the game comes
straight out of Peter Jackson's three films. With rules
based on the old classic Risk, this game is none the less a
more complex and entertaining version of its predecessor.
The use of the cards is a major change to the way Risk works
as well as the imposition of a "time limit." This limit is
determined by the path of the One Ring, which makes its way
across the board according to a set route. Once it reaches
Mount Doom, the game is over. Additionally, the game is
restricted to a maximum of four players. Lord of the Rings
Risk Trilogy Edition is a beautifully finished game, with
well modelled playing pieces, gorgeous cards and an overall
impressive presentation. Give it a try - its classic board
game strategy at its best!"
Runebound
"Just like computer games, board games
are starting to cross genre boundaries with gay abandon.
Once a quest space has been reached, the game turns into
something of a card game. These cards are used to determine
if the player is successful or not. Beating a quest will
result in character growth, as well as treasure rewards. And
so the game progresses until one player becomes the ultimate
hero of the lands. Runebound is an incredibly interesting
game in terms of concept, and is great fun to play. The
random element brought into the game through the use of
cards keeps things interesting, and the experience induced
growth of characters makes the game exciting throughout the
play time. This is a great board game for those who want to
try something different, and who enjoy the prospect of
adventures and hidden treasures within their games."

What is "Spiel des Jahres" and why should it be
important to you? Here is some background that will help you understand
this very prestigious award. The "Spiel des Jahres" (German Board Game
of the Year) was created in 1978 by a group of renowed german-speaking
game reviewers. The award is a critics award and is intended to further
the cultural value of games, revive the spirit of gaming among friends
and in the family and to give orientation for the buyer. The jury for
the award is composed solely of professional game journalists. These
journalists have proven their competence and professional judgement
through many years of work for newspapers, magazines, TV or radio.
People who depend on games as a source of income in any way are not
allowed to be part of the jury. The critics award is a prize of honor
and there is no financial award associated with it. The award is judged
according to the following criterions:
1) Idea – Originality, Playability and Educational Value
2) Design of Rules – Organisation, Clarity and Understandability
3) Layout – Packing, Layout of the Gameboard and the Game Rules
4) Design – Functionality and overall Quality of Game Materials included
Here is the list of games we offer that have won
the Spiel des Jahres award:
2004 - Ticket to Ride, 2001 - Carcassonne, 1995 -
Settlers of Catan

!!Special Newsflash!!

Warcraft
and Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation have been reviewed in the
October issue of NAG magazine, which has just been released. Here are
the Reviews courtesy of NAG Magazine.
Warcraft: The Board Game
"At one point I though that board games of the strategy kind had been
replaced by PC titles. In the early days, a number of PC titles took the
lead from these board games - and the overtook them. Now the shoe is on
the other foot, with PC titles influencing and inspiring board games.
Take the WarCraft Board Game, for example. Based on Blizzard's WarCraft
3, this game is for two to four players, and uses a stylised version of
the computer version's play dynamic.
The game is well produced, with wooden and cardboard counters, as well
as "press out" style board pieces. A collection of cards is also used by
the game, to define upgrades, represent effects and that sort of thing.
Because of the dice rolling element, the game is far more "random" than
the PC version, but is nonetheless a great amount of fun to play. Its
simple approach allows for fairly complicated strategies to be
formulated easily. It's basically Risk a-la WarCraft, but features
surprising play depth."
Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation
"This board game introduces some interesting elements to the whole
strategy board game idea. At first glance, it is a very simple game for
two players only. But, after playing for a while, the complexity of the
game shows itself in an unexpected place...
One player controls the forces of good, while the other the forces of
evil. They move markers towards each other - these markers contain
concealed character information that only the controlling player can
see. Additionally, cards are also used.
But the true beauty of the game comes to the fore not in the movement of
the pieces, but in the bluffing element that defines the play dynamic.
Players can try to outdo each other with bluffs and sneaky tactics to
gain the upper hand in the situation.
This high quality game is a must for strategy fans who like their
playing experience to be less than honest!"
